The Globe and Mail’s Attracting Top Talent Conference

I wrapped up my Spring speaking season (It is officially summer now right?) with a great event, the Globe and Mail’s Attracting Top Talent Conference. The event was sponsored by Indeed and the room was filled with people who were actually on the front lines or hiring and developing talent. It was my favourite kind of audience, one where people were passionate about the topic and there to learn and to share their knowledge with their colleagues.
I was honoured to give a keynote presentation and shared what I am seeing as an economist and as someone who is continuously learning about the trends around work. Thanks to my podcast, Work and the Future, I speak to experts on all aspects of work continuously, and through them and through my own research one of the conclusions I have reached is that so many managers feel that they are unsupported and that they are figuring things out on their own. There is real role for training (especially if we are talking about holding on to talent), which is something to remember as the economy softens and budgets get cut.
I talked about the trends, about the economy and about workplace change, and about generational differences as well. In the clip below we all laughed about some of the things that surface on Work TikTok these days, but just maybe some of those people posting have something to say about how younger generations feel about work.
All in all a great event – so glad that I got to be part of it!
